So, a tough guy from Kansas City spit tobacco juice in the face of a little old lady...and then he ran away...what a schmuck...and a coward. Look, i don't much like Jane Fonda, and i blame her for that whole aerobics/thinness/bullimic thing she touted which made women ashamed if they were a few pounds heavier than Jane's standards, but she's just a 67-year old, former actress who is very likely an abused woman herself. The little girl who said the things she said and did the things she did was only 20-something...i don't know about you, but i don't take seriously anything that post-teens say or do. But. Mr. tough guy, Michael A. Smith, Vietnam Vet Supreme, thinks Jane's "a traitor" and that "a lot of vets would like to do what I did." Nonsense. She's an American citizen with free expression privileges, no matter who disagrees with her. And a lot of vets i know are appalled by Mr. Smith and his manners.
Fonda has become a polarizing figure in the wake of the Vietnam War.
In 1972, she was photographed laughing on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft tank.
She has since expressed regret, stating in 1988, "I will go to my grave regretting the photograph of me in an anti-aircraft gun, which looks like I was trying to shoot at American planes. It hurt so many soldiers. It galvanized such hostility. It was the most horrible thing I could possibly have done. It was just thoughtless."
There's an ancient Jewish proverb: "If all that you seek is revenge, best dig two graves."
